Compulsive Overeating Advice and the EFT Movie Technique


I gave a young lady the following advice and then thought more people should see it. If you or someone you care for binge eats, read on…

For some people who want to avoid binging, they try to eat less during the day, in an attempt to make up for the binging at the latter part of the day. However, going without food or on less food makes people starving hungry and this leads to binging. So make sure you have lunch and maybe something at mid-afternoon.

For some, eating foods high in sugars can change the body’s biochemistry and/or lead to an overgrowth of fungi/yeasts and bacteria that make us crave sweet food. Maybe you have heard of dogs that have worms eating more? This is the same kind of thing, only it is bacteria or fungi/yeasts. The most common of these is Candida, a yeast. You don’t have to know if you have it or something else. You can tap for it anyway. Again, tap at every opportunity throughout the day, without SUDS/numbers. You can say something like “Even though I have these bugs inside me making me crave food – yuk, I deeply…”Also try to eat foods with a low GI and not too much sweet fruit – and avoid pre-packaged foods labeled “low fat” (they are usually high carbohydrate). You might want to Google “Candida” and “low GI” and see what comes up.

I help some clients alongside a nutrition expert. He recommends drinking plenty of water. This is because there is a type of hunger caused by needing water. This also leads to binging. So make sure you drink water regularly to make sure you don’t get water hunger. If you have problems drinking water, that is also tappable. You can tap several times a day the simple mantra “I choose to drink water regularly today, and that’s OK.”

If I were working with you on the phone or in person, I would spend time in each session working on the last time you binged. Usually this would be the day before or that day. Go over it as a movie in narrate the movie technique. At each stage, ask yourself on a scale of 10-0 how likely you are to binge if you were re-living that point, then tap on it. Below is an example of a binging story.

“I came home and went straight to the kitchen cupboard and before I knew it I had eaten a whole packet of cookies. Then I ate some chips and I couldn’t stop. Then I raided the fridge for yesterday’s leftovers. I ate those cold. Then I had two bars of chocolate. Then I had some fruit and just couldn’t stop till it was all gone.”

I would de-construct this step by step and tap on each step until if re-lived, it would be a zero. This takes about 90 minutes of tapping at least per binging episode.

When down to zero…

“Then I ate some chips” How likely are you to do that on a scale of 10-0 if you were to relive this now? Make a note then tap: “Even though I have this chips feeling, I deeply…”

When down to zero…

“and I couldn’t stop” How likely are you to do that on a scale of 10-0 if you were to relive this now? Make a note then tap: “Even though I couldn’t stop eating the chips, I deeply…”

And so on… All the way through the movie till it is all zero, part by part.
